Wildlife Artists Maryland and Virginia

Along the Atlantic coast, are the states of Maryland and Virginia. The area is known for its barrier virgin islands, the Chesapeake Bay, wildlife refuges and abundance of nature. This unique environment attracts all kinds of artists that visit and create works art based on their observations. The themes are popular the world famous Chincoteague wild horses, waterfowl, shorebirds, fish and other wildlife.

A Virginia artist uses aerial photography to capture images of nature. Photographs carriers of the wild horses are the herd led along the beach at Assateague Island in preparation for the 2009 Chincoteague Pony Swim, Penning and Auction. Another local artist, Wally Makuchal, Jr. captures wildlife through the paint. The artist offers limited edition prints of state duck stamps. In 2009, the artist offered prints entitled "Icey Refuge '. The prints show a couple of blue-winged Teal enjoy a quiet winter morning, along with a partially frozen pond Delmarva. The original work carried top honors in the 2009-2010 Maryland migratory game bird stamp competition design held in Laurel, MD, also known as the Maryland label 'Duck contest. The Maryland duck stamp program is the fourth oldest of its kind in the U.S. and is in her thirty-five years of fundraising to preserve and restore waterfowl and other precious animals in the state.

The size of the edition is limited to 1400 standard and 160 tests played in fade ink artist resistant to acid-free paper. The image is approximately 7 by 9.75 inches and the overall paper size is 12 by 14 inches. Prints are signed and numbered by the artist, and enclosed in a protective acid-free folder. Observations on the original pencil color and available in any edition. Prints will be available in early October 2009.

Makuchal Wally Jr. has won several competitions in the state seal. Maryland won in 1999, the duck stamp Florida in 1996 and the same year, the trout stamp Maryland. Wally owns and operates in Makuchal Signs Girdletree, MD and paints in his spare time.
