Female Photography – Photographing the Female Form
It is only recently that I have my feet wet in the waters of artistic photography, and even more recently, I have tried my best to capture the female body in photography. I've been reluctant to do so, at least in part, because I felt I had much to contribute to this genre. It's hard to think most photographed subject of sensual female form … or not. Nude in the woods naked female figure on motorcycles … it seems that everything has been done before, and yet as an artist, I have always felt compelled to study, say, tasteful photography of female body.
It took me some twenty-seven, but finally have launched a series of photographic studies of the human body, not only women but also men who gives me something new. And in the process found that the creation of such studies, while not something totally new and different, you can also fulfill the job.
What interests me to begin with, was a series of images I created of city lights using long exposure times … usually in the range of a second, while moving the camera. I was sitting in an outdoor cafe in Vietnam in the evening with friends and doing nothing for long exposure shots of street lamps Avenue from where we sat. The combination of flashing neon lights along the bar with the camera movement gave rise to a kind of fireworks liquid "feel. Since that night I have been hooked to fire the city lights that way. As I started to develop a body of work caught my attention by the lyrical and sensual, even some of the images … and how some of them seemed to take the form of the female body.
It is the sensual feel of some of these images of light that first led me to decide to pull the human body. I decided to shoot some nude photographs (of both men and women) and combine them with my light long exposure photos using Photoshop, to create a series of images that explore combinations of color, light, and naked. In some cases, I have the models assume poses that work with the lights … and sometimes it starts with the attitude and look for lights that match the position … or can manipulate in Photoshop to improve the best photograph of the model. In some cases the lights take the appearance of the meridians and chakras … while in other cases, the lights give a sense of movement and / or energy. Adding images of light can also add and enhance the sensuality, mystery and glamor to the final image.
I combine first images using clipping masks to create a tight, accurate selection of the body, then add as a new layer in the image of light. Then you can duplicate several layers may reattach, and use layer masks to create the impression of light that surrounded and sometimes going by the human body. I use adjustment layers with masks integrated to add dimensionality to the agencies and / or add color, intensity or saturation of the specific areas of the compounds. Hue and Saturation controls also allow me to enhance and / or change the colors of light rays. Some of the images can be very simple, with layers of only three or four, while others become quite complex. I've had some of these images to reach layers of the seventies!
It was while the combination of forms that also started taking his naked body photographed in my studio, and Photoshop, again, to put the body in other settings … cloudscapes all. They've done a realistic picture, so that a casual examination leave anyone to believe that there were actually naked been shot in these settings. Firing the bodies in my studio can control the lighting around curves and improved muscle. By stripping the bodies cloudscapes I emphasize the sense of freedom, expansion, and only simple beauty of photography.
Now when I travel, I always look forward to creating more from my study of long-exposure light. I created the images using lights of the city of Hanoi, Buenos Aires, to New York to Mumbai. I have long made it a habit to capture the shapes of clouds interesting … and now see how they could work with the human body. When I'm tired of my usual conceptually oriented projects stock photography, give me a "reward" … permission to play with the creation of new combinations of the human body, juxtaposed and intertwined with images light of my library of lights and / or clouds. Playing with these images restores my energy and fires up my creativity. It gives me a change of pace and renews my sense exploration, and gives me the joy of creating beauty for beauty's sake '!
