Pet photography as a business
So I decided to try to exploit the increasing demand for photography in a population largest ever pet owner! I applaud your decision.
The pet industry was exploding by leaps and bounds incredible even before the arrival of the Internet. The availability of animal-based company that used this new route for trade multiplied exponentially.
There are certainly a number of sites available where you can buy almost anything you can imagine for your furry housemates, but as company photographer professional, I would stick to what I know and what I do best.
I take pictures!
Now, you're probably saying himself to take pictures too, and that does not qualify as a professional pet photographer. What makes me so special? The answer is that people are willing to pay me to take pictures of them and I manage to sell a good number of photos of pets and related items.
But going to cause arguments, say you take a photo that captures a special quality in someone's company that makes them ask if you can buy a copy. This is his introduction into the world of photography pet as a business, and this is where you can get stuck.
There are thousands, literally thousands of books on how to proceed regarding the making up business and all of them probably have something valuable to offer. We must remember that most of these books are in the business of selling books, not knowledge. It's a bit like the "Make Zillions in Real Estate" infomercials that promise to quadruple your income in three days, if you buy their program. Well, the owner of the program, no doubt, will make millions and millions, but most will come from selling you the program that does not necessarily using the information in the program!
Do not get me wrong! There are books out there that will be of great help to you. You only need to be careful about what advice is that you really need to create a pet photography business.
First! Define yourself.
Are you predominantly an artist or a photographer? Yes, of course, can be both. The question is, do you want to create portraits of pets that are true works of art like painting portraits professionally done? Do going to do as part of a statement about himself as the artist like you on the subject of the photograph? Want to develop the ability to capture the relationship especially between a landlord and your pet? Or do you simply want to go for the owner who wants a framed picture of Nice to recognize that your pet is truly a beloved member of family whose picture deserves to be placed in a position of honor on the mantle place with the rest of the family?
These are important questions to ask before you start. I do not mean to suggest that you should choose a way of thinking about the other. Simply, it is easier to create a viable business plan for himself as a professional photographer if you become aware of your target audience and make you able to adapt to their specific needs. You will find that once you determine the type of photography has to offer, the interview process between you and the potential customer is the most important part of the process.
It is imperative that you be able to understand the dynamics between the pet and owner. This probably will be a purely intuitive exercise on his part from the way the owner sees a pet is not always how the relationship will find. Are they overly affectionate and corny-cute together? What I enjoy rough play and outdoor activities? Are quiet and sedentary together? These observations give insight into what the owner expects to see when they look at their interpretation of their bond with their pets. The portrait should reflect not only the personality of the pet, but the perception of the owners of that personality as well.
Prices! I would suggest a rate which is not refundable. If someone is unwilling to recognize that your time is valuable, then it is probably not willing to pay for picture packages later. A "sitting fee" requires a commitment from the outset that encourages an environment of professionalism on both sides. The owner realizes that they are paying for the privilege and acknowledges that it has an obligation with the owner.
Franchise? With all the new possibilities open to pet photographers, both entry level and professional level, it is inevitable that the issue of franchises come up. There is a built in safety net when they decide to go with an established franchise, both in the form of formulas in which they operate and public awareness in general of a household name. " But this has a cost and I do not think that is necessary for every business start-up photography Pet. I encourage you to research as much as possible and carefully examine your own business plan to see if it's worth the extra cost for a limited amount of security.
You can do this on their own. It can become a professional in your own home with pet photography. It can become the "go" photographer in your community. Just go out and get themselves known. Offer your services in the local animal shelters. Take the opportunity to do pro bono (free) photos for special occasions that have built in media coverage. Get the integrated card and PIN everywhere possible. The end result is … fun with him! The best thing to do in your life is finding something you enjoy doing and then find a way to make a living at it.
