Alfred Stieglitz, Born 01 January 1864, in New Jersey, was an internationally acclaimed pioneer of "modern photography. In 1881 the Stieglitz family moved to Germany where he continued his studies. He studied mechanical engineering and photography in Berlin. Alfred purchased her first camera in 1883, which marked the beginning of his passion for photography. He traveled throughout Europe, taking several photographs of landscapes and people almost all walks of life. In 1886, he sent his photo "The last joke Bellagio" in a competition organized by the British magazine Amateur Photographer. Alfred won his first recognition here.

Alfred Stieglitz returned to the United States in 1890, where his father bought him a company of photogravure. Stieglitz, however, never abandoned his first love, photography. In 1892, bought his first hand-held camera. I was fascinated by their newfound freedom and took some of his best pictures this year, "Winter, Fifth Avenue" and "The Terminal". In 1893, he joined the magazine "The American Amateur Photographer ', as co-editor and began writing articles on technical and aesthetic aspects of photography. He quickly gained a loyal and enthusiastic. In the same year, married Emmeline Obermeyer Stieglitz's insistence of his father. Even if she regrets marrying later, because she never expressed her artistic and cultural interest.

In 1895, Stieglitz decided to quit your job and firms to devote full time to promote photography as an artistic medium. Club gallery closed in 1917 but Stieglitz continued to photograph and display. During his work in 291 galleries, met and fell in love with the painter Georgia O'Keeffe. He had found his muse and his artistic soul mate in her. Emmeline Stieglitz divorced his wife in 1918 and married Georgia O'Keeffe in 1924.

Totally his life, Stieglitz worked tirelessly as a photographer, exhibitor, and editor of establishing photography as a medium Artistic accepted. His own works best photography can be classified into two series, one of the portraits of his wife, Georgia O'Keefe and the other is that the cloud forms corresponding to emotional experiences that he called "Equivalents." Stieglitz The last decades of life have been dedicated to the maintenance and promotion of several young photographers galleries America and Europe and artists. He managed to close the gallery (1925-1929) and the Plaza de America, 1929, until his last days. Photography Stieglitz was arrested in 1937 because of heart disease and died 1946.
