As you lie on the chair and watch the campaign budget, drafting deskand ancient wind-up gramophone, you could be forgiven to expect an invitation to share a cocktail with Baroness Blixen on the terrace. Here you can look over the groves of acacia trees sloping gently down to the gray-purple hills and golden lion plains of the Serengeti Western Corridor, scene of the wildebeest migration. The essentially colonial ambiance of the tent-rooms evokes memories colorful famous safaris of yesteryear, when such romantic figures as Teddy Roosevelt and Edward, Prince of Wales indulged in lavish shooting safaris of Africa of incomparable elegance.
Accommodation at Camp Kirawira consist of only 25 luxury tents perched on a hill just south of Grumeti River. Describing the rooms and tents is misleading and probably a better description might be luxury cabins in the tent. There are 20 twin (2 beds twins) and 5 double rooms (1 king size). Double rooms can be converted to triples to accommodate two adults and one child. The main lodge facilities are at the top and center of the hill while sleeping tents are positioned around the perimeter of the hill. The tents are spaced about 50 feet apart along brick walkways. Tents 1 to 15 have the best views, as these are defined further up the hill. Tents 16 to 25 are defined below on the hill and have a better idea of bush. Tents 3 to 6 are closest to the Lodge main areas (dining tent for example) and is recommended for people wishing to camp housing more accessible.
The tents are raised above the ground being built on wooden stilts. Each tent is accessible via a short series of steps (approximately 10 to 15 steps), which leads to a beautiful private veranda. The verandas are furnished with chairs and provide a safari overlooking the woodlands below. You can continue your safari in Tanzania by a pair of binoculars. Each tent is decorated with taste with hardwood discount fashionable Grand Safari. The decor is a clever blend of classic opulence and practicality of the camp with generous beds canopy, quilts handmade patchwork, steam cabinets, trunk and brass lamps. At the rear of each tent is an elegant paneled room mahogany with twin marble sinks, brass fittings polished, black and white tiled floor and tiled shower compartment containing separate toilet. There is a hairdryer in each tent and electrical outlets for charging your batteries. Kirawira Camp runs the generator 24 hours a day.
