Most people think of RV travel and camping activities as summer time. Let's face it, tents and most small trailers are not configured for use in winter. It did not used to having a huge demand for it.
People leaving their vehicles camping gear and spring and put it all away in the fall. Then, they hunker down for winter and counting the days until that the weather appears again in the spring. There was not much thought given to four season use of this substance.
But, recent years, increasingly are using their RVs year-around. Demand for "four seasons" coaches mounted sharply. Of course, where there is demand, there will be manufacturers willing to meet him!
I live near Phoenix, Arizona. Our land Camping (RV Resorts!) are crowded during the winter months. These people are called "snowbirds" come here from a country really cold for the winter. Many of them live in their RVs.
While it is true that we do not have very cold weather track with snow and ice, one often sees temperatures fall below zero degrees at night during the winter. Recreational vehicles must be able to keep their occupants warm and protect the RV systems cold.
I do not know if you noticed, but I was see more recreational vehicles on the road during the holidays. Perhaps the worry of security or increasing costs Travel Air that have more people take to the road. Perhaps that is the cost or inconvenience of hotels that causes people to take their car instead. Whatever the reason, more and more people are choosing RV travel for the holidays.
The reasons are others use their RVs all year. Fairs, dog shows, concerts and many other exhibitions are also opportunities for people to meet. These days, it is quite common to see the parking lot partially filled with recreational vehicles – no matter what season of the year it is.
According to a recent article in the Toronto Star, many Canadians spend their winter months in an RV park in Yuma, Arizona. One reasons why there is so they can slip across the border to Los Algodones, Mexico and dental care is expensive for much less money.
Thus, what is involved in the design of a four-season RV? Firstly, the wall and roof insulation is thicker, which gives greater protection against the cooler temperatures. Many people do not realize that retains the same function unit cooler in summer! Many recreational vehicles can also be ordered with double glazed windows for extra insulation.
Another important feature is that the bottom is closed and isolated. In many of them, the heating ducts run under the floor that holds all the plumbing systems and sensitive to freeze when the heat is on. Gates to the waste tanks are normally located in this remote area and heated as well.
RV's today are far from those of just 10 years. They are used for anything other than just summer vacation. RV travel has become part of increasingly important to our national lifestyle. One day it will be commonplace in live-time part in a house and part time in a caravan.
Now that will be fun!
Ed Hill was introduced to ‘camping’ by the US Army nearly half a century ago. Since then, he has camped his way across most of the United States and parts of Europe using tents and a variety of RV’s.
