John Lund Securities Interviews World Renowned photographer Jack Hollingsworth

Jack Hollingsworth is one of the best known names in stock photography. A first and very successful pioneer in the RF, Jack does not just sell shares through Getty, Corbis and its own site, but was the founder of Images, as well as sticks and IndiaPhotos Network. Jack has been described as "Indiana Jones with a camera," because of his constant travels around the world. Jack teaches, lectures, blogs, and has a column in the Shutterbug magazine.

John: You have the reputation of someone who is a pioneer, that does not avoid the change but embrace it, and certainly someone who is an entrepreneur heart. I think you are also a realist. In my book, these qualities make someone who is well suited to address current market realities. Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the future of stocks?

Jack: I'm optimistic about the future of everything. Stock is going through a difficult time now, but will back. There will always be a need for images. You may not back the same way that he knew, but will be back.

John: My strategy is twofold: Make the best, most relevant images that can then get the pictures off many potential buyers as possible. Much my plan is the development and optimization of my website. Power you share your strategy for dealing with the future?

Jack: Online. The web is all. The web is the center, the hub of the wheel all the rays radiate. You have to learn to use web 2.0, learning tools, learning to explore and exploit what the web has to offer. I reforming the whole, my blog, my site, everything from the beginning.

John: Do you see the consumer as a viable prospect?

Jack: Yes I still do not know how to reach them, but there are millions and millions and millions of them far beyond the retail distribution channel. The money is in how the photograph in front of consumers. This is an entirely new kind of market. There are 60,000 to 80,000 buyers of commercial actions in the world. That figure does not really change. Now with the push of a button, we can reach millions of people. Think about that!

John: I think of that!

Jack: We are in a crossroads, a crossroads. Very few may still have the cool lifestyle stock shoot we had. Now it is reaching consumers. It is about building community and monetizing it. People do this: Our success in the future has little to do with our past, but rather what we do from today. It is not his past, which exploded. This is what we do from now on. This is what we shoot now, and how to shoot. You can not rely on their legacy. Micro can be a celebrity on the net in 12 months. It is about developing a fan base. With a fan base of 1,000, maybe 5,000, you can make a good life.

new photography business

John: Micro, RF or RM … or some combination?

Jack: Adding pictures to that too. They are going to be. There is one or is a bit of everything. Some people do this, some make two or three. You have to find out what works for you, what you enjoy doing and then do it. My priority is the first recording and then a Rights Managed RF Micro division.

John: What about prints? Are you thinking of entering this field?

Jack: Yes! Possibly through Imagekind, or something. Now I'm cherry picking through my collections of images that I think would make a good impression sales. I actually in commerce. I have big plans for what people can do with my images. It can be cups of coffee and that sort of thing, or can be much more. Does not even know all the ways people will be using photos.

Jack: Jack, are undergoing a major re-branding to your website. When do you think will than ready for us to see?
