When I started working as a photographer in Israel, almost 20 years ago, all I wanted was the same stuff as they do abroad, as Vogue or the ID just returned from studying in London and Israel seemed like a desert in terms of fashion photography. The models were doing their own makeup and hair stylists and production teams rarely be seen.
Things have changed since then.
Today, Tel Aviv is one of the best locations for a fashion photographer to be. Numerous, very professional and enthusiastic team of makeup artists, stylists, art directors, producers and editors around, who have high to Tel Aviv to a new level.
Israel, and in particular of Tel Aviv, is full of creative energy. Wherever you turn your head, new galleries, boutiques, and new designs are emerging rapidly, intelligent and attractive people sitting in cafes discussing new interesting projects non-stop. It is also a pleasure to work here because people are very friendly. Some may get too friendly, which means we do not know how to mind our own business, but in general, Israelis are very helpful towards each other and to strangers.
Location wise, Israel is a real gem. The country is quite small, in question I spend hours a desert to a place in the sea, and from the sea to the mountains. Israel also offers some of the most exclusive destinations and sacred places in the world – The Dead Sea, the Sea of Galilee, Jerusalem, archaeological sites … Some of the most rare of the planet are in the first half hour drive from the main Israeli cities and the country has every facet of modern life and comfort to offer.
The climate of Israel is another. With nearly 365 days of sunshine and warm temperatures, I can photograph outdoors, basically on a daily basis. In the summers I often seek refuge in my air conditioned studio, when temperatures outside become in too crazy.
Israel is commonly referred to as a real melting pot, people from Russia, Europe, Asia and Africa have migrated here bringing their own food, culture, style of dress and beautiful unique face. Certainly it is not difficult for me to find models for any project.
I invite to take a look at my website to see my work, both on location and in the study: target = "_blank"> target = "_blank"> www.miridavidovitz.com. There are two more sites I'd recommend, one is from my dear friend Sharon Schaveet: target = "_blank"> target = "_blank"> www.biblicalproductions.com. Sharon is an international producer, specializing in Jerusalem and the site will give many valuable tips about filming in Israel.
The other site is target = "_blank"> www.cityguidetelaviv.com, where you can see the variety of places in Tel Aviv and find the latest information updates on the best and trendiest places to wine and dine, to party and relax.
I hope you decide to do your next project here.
