portrait photography – Writing a portrait

main point of interest

All image requires a point of major interest, and a portrait that is usually the subject's eyes.

The main point of interest should not be a deadlock in context: it is too static and symmetrical. Imagine a line through the eyes of the subject, and another at 90 ° through the nose and chin cross. The best position for this cross is slightly above the horizontal center of the image and slightly left or right vertical half.

That the cross is slightly left or right depending on how the subject is looking. If you are looking at the left, there should be more information on the left so that the cross is placed right of center. However, finding the right, the cross should be placed on the left. This will keep the viewer to draw the image when one follows the subject line of sight.

When the subject face the camera directly to reflect the direction shoulders. Here, the aim should be to have a little more space in front of the object rather than behind them. So if the right shoulder is closer to the camera, frame the image so that their eyes are also center-right.

Returning to our imagined a cross hand, if this is right, the picture appears very formal. It's often a good choice for most subjects mature. The slope of the cross on both sides creates a diagonal axis characteristics, which suggests a movement of vitality, and it is often preferable for younger subjects.

Triangles

The composition is always improved by the creation triangles. When composing a picture, try to visualize the layout of the facility in a triangle.

Tall triangles in a vertical format indicates height and dignity. In a horizontal format to jail or fight. low triangles in a horizontal format implies stability. In a vertical format that gives impression of weakness. Triangles suggest movement tilted forward and the right rear involving vividness. Tilting too far in any direction, and stability will be lost unless a second stabilizing element is introduced. If looks are about to fall on someone, it must that the composition of the vaccine is bad (for example, a large head tilted to one side may need a hand in support. The introduction an arm bent at the elbow creates another triangle and restore stability).

Lines can be broken as long as the eye can be removed easily. The lines may be imagined, or implied. For example, one eye of spectators still tend to follow the subject line of sight.

Ringtones

Our eyes are always more attracted by the bright colors dark tones. directional trends can be created by the tones, if for example, if two or more light adjacent areas, the eye moves from one to another.

In a portrait, the face should be the main attraction, and therefore lighter. Any light district another kind (clothing, hands) should be moderate in tone, the habits Avoid (eg, clothing), because they can compete with face care.

A portrait must be balanced tone. It means not having all the shadows in one hand, and all shades light on the other (Unfortunately, this is what we see in a typical wedding photo of the bride and groom!).

Funds

I have rarely played in the background a reference image for a good reason, and choosing the background for a portrait is probably worth a separate article.

Everything I say here is that the only consideration is either a bright or dark. dark backgrounds are often seen in classical portraits. funds of light are currently in vogue in modern photography. In my case, a light background works best, because it makes the outline of the subject easier to see.

Color

harmony colors and behaviors are an important component of the composition. Colors convey mood and depth. Cool colors appear to shrink (Blue-green blue, purple), while warm colors appear to advance (yellows. orange, red). Cool, neutral colors or more work for the funds, while warm colors on clothes to help give a vertical depth.

Color options depend on the object. Blondes and blacks have different needs, the works well with the old blue, while the second best costumes blue-greens/greens. Somber colors more suitable subjects, while the colors are vibrant with good young subjects.

The aim should be to choose colors that complement each other, and are sensitive to the color of the field.
